Morning Crossword and Coffee
Come visit us in the morning and find a fresh daily puzzle and a good cup of hot coffee. Daily puzzles will be available at all skill levels from entry-level-Minis to Saturday-level tough. Pull up a chair and solve your puzzle around other word play lovers or take it back to your camp (don’t forget to mind your MOOP). We will even have some Burning Man themed puzzles for those who want to put their playa knowledge to the test. Bring your own mug.
Open Play
Our dome is not just for early risers. Come relax in the shade and solve a puzzle whenever we are open. Want to collaborate with fellow Burners? Head to our daily jumbo puzzle to fill in a couple of clues and watch others play. True to our name, the Word Play Cafe is not just for crossword solvers. When you visit us, you can also play board games such as Scrabble, Bananagrams and Boggle and even try one of our booklets with all manner of word games.
Kids Hours
Children are always welcome in the dome, but these events are especially for kids. Head over with your favorite young Burner during our kids hours to find our hosts organizing team Hangman and Burning Man themed group games for kids. Like the adults, your kids will also enjoy board games at their level like Scrabble Jr, Headbandz and even word based jigsaw puzzles for our youngest guests. Advanced word players will also have access to the grown-up puzzles and other games.
Wordle
Just like in the default world, every day we will have an official Wordle and we invite you to play along either with one of our hosts or with other cafe visitors. We will also have some historical words on hand if you need more than one to get your fix. Shhhh…remember not to share the daily word with anyone unless you know the coast is clear.
Adult Social Hours
Join us during our adult social hours to mingle and play group games with other word game enthusiasts. Will we have some rated X games? Maybe. Ok, yes.
Little Black and White Dress Party
The Word Play Cafe is in the BLD Village, the oldest village on Playa. For many years, our beloved village has hosted a Little Black Dress party on Thursday afternoon. We will keep the party going in the dome with games, puzzles and some black and white treats.
Live Competitions
Turn up the heat on your puzzle solving game by joining one of our live competitions. Can you be first to hit the buzzer in a mini puzzle race? Can your team beat out the others in completing a word search? Check out our live games to earn special prizes for winners and stickers for all who play.
Constructor Conversation
Want to know what it takes to create a good crossword puzzle? This conversation will cover topics like the rules and process of crossword construction, how you can get started writing puzzles of your own and tips for becoming a better crossword solver.
Diverse Constructors & Unconventional Puzzles
Come and try our sampling of crosswords by diverse constructors including those from women, LGBTQ+, Trans, and nonbinary constructors. We also have unique puzzles that are creative and unconventional.Find us on Playa!
